Memorial Day May 30, 2011 Harborfields Veterans Exhibit at the Suydam Homestead

This Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 the Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association presented an ongoing Veterans exhibit.
 Uniforms and vintage WWI posters were displayed.
A rare 33 star flag from 1859, with the stars in what is known as the "Grand Luminary" pattern was shown.

 There was a Power Point presentation of photos and personal Veterans Stories.

The exhibit included a knapsack from the War of 1812, on loan from the Huntington Historical Society.
 Vintage rifle, cannon, and powder horn.


This case contains artifacts from WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

 Boots from the Vietnam War.
 Helmet and gear from the Korean War.

 The Purple Heart Award that inspired the whole exhibit.
A mobile kitchen from WWII 1945.


The medals from Donna Boyle reflecting the highest enlisted rank.
 The women's corner including a "Rosie the Riveter" poster.
Gear from the War in Afghanistan.
 Across the street at a Veterans Memorial corner the Centerport Fire Department raised the flag following their parade.

A WWII veteran is honored.

New York Autofest II Heads, Tails, and Hood Ornaments Belmont Raceway

 When I looked at these works of art at the New York Autofest, Belmont Raceway, May 22, 2011, I realized  how much automobiles have lost, design & style versus fuel economy and price.



























 We will never see hood ornaments like these again.
